The Roman bronze situla comes from a collection of archaeological artifacts confiscated at customs and transferred to the holdings of the National Museum of History of Moldova in 2009. Its place of discovery remains unknown.

A situla (Latin for "bucket") is a metal vessel-usually made of bronze-shaped like a pail and equipped with two movable handles at the top, traditionally used for mixing wine with water. The handles are attached to the vessel via two decorated ears that are welded to the rim.

The body of the situla is truncated-conical in shape and features two decorative bands with small circular patterns formed by hammering, located just below the rim.

Its base is double-layered: the inner bottom is hemispherical and hammered, while the outer bottom is flat and lathe-made. The outer base is welded to the inner bottom, serving as the vessel's foot-support.

This object was crafted using a combination of casting, hammering, and partial lathe-finishing. Dimensions: Maximum height - 31.7 cm; Maximum diameter - 22.8 cm; Base diameter - 13.5 cm

Situlae of this type originated in the Roman Empire and were later adopted by various ancient peoples, including those from the northwestern Pontic region.

“30 years of friendship between USAID and the Republic of Moldova”

September 21 – October 23, 2022

In 2022, USAID marks the 30th anniversary of its activity in the Republic of Moldova.

Since 1992, USAID has provided approximately 648 million dollars for the implementation of more than 130 financial and technical assistance projects in the following areas: Agriculture, Tourism, Wine Sector, Light Industry, Democracy and Responsible Government, Education, Information Technology Sector (IT), Justice and Anti-corruption, Community Development, Trade and Export, Health and COVID-19 Assistance and others.

On this occasion, an interactive wall of more than seven meters was installed in the lobby of the National Museum of History of Moldova, on which the main achievements of USAID during the three decades since it has been active in Moldova are illustrated. We promise a lot of useful information, packaged in an ingenious and entertaining way.

Also, during this period, the photography exhibition dedicated to the 30 years of friendship between USAID and Moldova can be visited. It contains representative images from various sectors, made during the last decade within USAID projects. The photo exhibition can be seen on the fence of the National Museum of History of Moldova until October 23, 2022.

Thus, we invite you, between September 21 and October 23, to immerse yourself in history and get to know the Agency's most important achievements in areas of major importance, which are key elements of the sustainable development of the Republic of Moldova.
