This remarkable portrait of Mihai Eminescu, created by artist Alexandru Gușanov, is based on one of the four known photographs of the poet. The photograph that inspired this portrait was taken in 1869 in Wenceslas Square, Prague, when Eminescu was only 19 years old. The oval composition and harmonious color palette highlight the prominent personality and charisma of the young poet, capturing an expression that conveys both melancholy and intellectual depth.
Alexandru Gușanov (1929-2005), a Moldovan painter of Ukrainian origin, distinguished himself through his extensive work, comprising approximately 5,000 pieces - portraits, landscapes, and still life paintings. Settled in Moldova since 1945, Gușanov graduated from the Republican Art School "I.E. Repin" in Chișinău in 1952. His works were showcased in numerous national and international exhibitions and were highly appreciated in countries such as France, Hungary, Russia, and Yugoslavia. The artist dedicated a significant part of his career to creating portraits of historical and cultural figures, including Dimitrie Cantemir, Mihail Kogălniceanu, and Alexei Mateevici, which are part of the National Museum of History of Moldova's collection.

The subject of the portrait, Mihai Eminescu (1850-1889), is the most significant poet in Romanian literature, whose works reflect profound thought, sensitivity toward nature, and national identity. At the age of 19, when the photograph that inspired this portrait was taken, Eminescu was in the midst of his intellectual formation, preparing to become the iconic voice of Romanian culture. Among his most famous works is the poem Luceafărul (The Morning Star), a masterpiece of universal literature.

Charity event "Sing for Hope"

On October 5, at the National Museum of History of Moldova, took place a unique event: the launch of a piano painted by refugee children from Ukraine.

The "Sing for Hope" project is one of the largest public art projects in New York City and brings pianos painted by artists to the city's parks and public spaces. "Sing for Hope" aims to support children from war zones or who are in vulnerable situations through art therapy.

The piano was painted both by children from Ukraine and by children from Chisinau at Community Center 151, on October 4, together with the painter Momoshi.

The launch of the piano took place at the National Museum of History of Moldova on Wednesday, October 5, and gathered a lot of beautiful people. The event was opened by Iana Stantieru - the director of the Europe's Art Gallery and co-organizer of the event together with the project coordinator Victoria Donu. His Excellency Marko Shevchenko - Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova was present at the event and spoke about the situation in Ukraine. The program of the event also included a poetry recital about war and peace by Dumitru Crudu, Maria Ivanov and Jazgul Orozov, a piano and voice music recital by the great performer Cătălin Josan and a charity painting exhibition organized by Europe's Art together with union of Ukrainian visual artists in the Republic of Moldova.

The art exhibition will remain at the museum until October 28 and the amount collected from the sales of paintings will be donated to refugee children from Ukraine.

The project was organized in partnership with the National Museum of History of Moldova, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Moldova, Art Fest, Moldova for Peace, Community Center 151, Europe's Art Gallery, Women in Art for Peace, the Theater Center of Moldova.
